Cougar Golfers Travel To Administaff Augusta State Invitational

Houston - The University of Houston men's golf team travels to Augusta, Ga., where the Cougars will compete in the 2007 Administaff Augusta State Invitational Tournament at the Champions Retreat Golf Club March 30-April 1.
The Tournament consists of 54 holes being played on a par 72, 7,265 yard course that was designed by golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Nine holes will be played on the Bluffs Course that was designed by Nicklaus, and the other nine holes will be on the Island Course designed by Palmer, and features a 280-acre island with miles of shore land along the Savannah River.
Houston will be competing against a field that includes 10 of the Top 31 teams in the latest Golfweek and Golfstat magazines. The rest of the field includes Auburn, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Florida, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee, USC-Aitken, Virginia, Virginia Tech and the host school Augusta State.
Houston enters the Administaff Augusta State Invitational after finishing fifth among 15 teams at the Border Olympics that was played at the Laredo Country Club on March 15-16. This marks the first time that the Cougars have played in Augusta since the 1980 Fall season, and the first time UH competes in the Augusta State Invitational. The Cougars finished in fifth place at the 1980 Augusta Forrest Hills Invitational.
COUGAR LINEUP
Houston's lineup at the Augusta State Invitational will have senior Ricky Romano playing in the No. 1 position after he recorded his third Top 10 finish this season at the Border Olympics on Mar. 15-16. Romano finished that tournament in seventh place with a four-under-par score of 212. Romano's best finish this season was at Pepperdine's Club Glove Intercollegiate when he finished as a the runner-up with a score of three-over par. He also finished in sixth place at Houston's All-American Intercollegiate.
Junior Jordan Irwin will be the No. 2 player at the Administaff Invitational after he finished tied for 16th place in the tournament with a one-under-par 215 at the Border Olympics. Irwin has won two individual championships this season at the Mean Green Classic and the GADO North Texas Classic
. Senior Pablo Acuna starts in the No. 3 spot after shooting two-over-par and tied for 27th place. Acuna was the runner-up behind Irwin at the Mean Green Classic and registered an eighth-place finish at the North Texas Classic in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Sophomores Todd Bissenden and Steven Frazier round out Houston's lineup. Frazier finished in 32nd place at the Border Olympics while competing as an individual with a four-over par score of 220. It was his best score and finish this season. Bissenden shot five-over-par at the Border Olympics to finish in 39th place. Bissenden's top finish this season was at the Pepperdine Club Glove Intercollegiate when he tied for 27th place.
