Diggs Sets Provisional Mark at All-Comers Meet

HOUSTON -- Junior Ivan Diggs set an NCAA provisional mark in the high jump on Saturday, beating his previous season best of 2.16 meters. Diggs won the high jump competition clearing 2.18m (7-01.75) to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships. Senior Tristian Whitley finished third with a height of 1.98m (6-06.00).
Seniors James Lee and Lucas Mireles finished second and third in the shot put. Lee threw 16.50m (54-01.75) and Mireles had a throw of 16.40m (53-09.75). Sophomore Jeremy Kelley added a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.44m (44-01.25).
A week after setting a new school record, junior Amanda Villanueva finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.12m (56-2). Freshman Ashley Bryant competed unattached and finished fourth. On the men's side, sophomore Andy Tackett finished ninth with a throw of 11.56m (37-11.25).
Sophomore LeeA'ndrea Robinson turned in a second place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. She finished the race with a time of 8.67. In the men's 60-meter hurdles freshman Steven Jones finished third with a time of 8.32.
In the distance events, winning the 5,000 meter run was junior Oumama Hallal with a time of 19:34.06. Freshman Jessica Cook and junior Adriane Guinn finished second and third in the mile run with sophomore Kelcee Keenan finishing sixth. Sophomore Jennifer Harper won the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.82. Adding a 17th place finish was freshman Erica Hannemann.
For the men, in the distance events, senior Paul Goodwin finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:32.02. Freshman Michael Malain added a seventh place finish. In the 3,000 meters freshman Nathan Trimble finished sixth with a time of 9:16.10 and freshman Adrian Slusher finished 12th (9:53.58).
Junior Ashley Ligon took the top spot for the Cougars in the pole vault, clearing 3.50m (11-05.75) to finish sixth. Senior Danielle Aanaerud added a seventh place finish and freshman Kristina Escobar finished 10th.
Freshman Brittani Williams finished fifth in the high jump clearing 1.48m (4-10.25). In the long jump freshman Quin'shundolyn McPherson finished fourth with a leap of 5.39m (17-08.25) and in the triple jump Kelli Williams finished fourth (11.56m/37-11.25).
In other field events, freshmen Alex Bentley and Courtney Beasley finished second and fourth in the, respectively, in the pole vault. Bentley cleared 4.90m (16-00.75) while Beasley reached a height of 4.60m (15-01.00).
The Cougars will be back in action next weekend at the LSU Twilight Invitational on Feb. 16. They will return to the friendly confines of Yeoman Field House on Feb 23-24 when they host the C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
