HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman Courtney Forcucci scored 318.10 points to win the 3-meter championship Friday evening during the second day of the Houston Diving Invitational at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
Forcucci, a native of Fort Mill, S.C., was the only diver to crack 300 points, and she reached that milestone in both the preliminaries and the finals. Her total was her second-highest mark, trailing only the 327.10 points she scored in the preliminaries earlier in the day.
For the second straight night, the Cougars earned three of the Top Four places. Senior captain Ginni van Katwijk, who won the 1-meter event Thursday, finished third with 284.65 points, while freshman Lacey Truelove placed fourth with 264.40 points.
Kansas' Erin Mertz finished second with 288.70 points.
On the men's side, Arizona's Matt Bisordi scored 369.05 points to win the 3-meter event, while teammate Ben Grado posted 349.50 points.
The meet wraps up at 11 a.m., Saturday, at the CRWC Natatorium with the combined finals of the platform competition. Admission to the meet is free to the public, which is invited to attend.
The Cougar divers return to action Nov. 30-Dec. 2, when they compete at the Texas Invitational in Austin. Their swimming counterparts resume their 2007-08 schedule on Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.
