Cougars Sign Three Track and Field Athletes

Houston- - University of Houston head track and field coach Leroy Burrell announced that Jessica Cook of Kingwood High School, along with Alex Bentley and John Patterson of Tomball High School have signed to compete for the Cougars in 2006-07.
Cook registered a sixth-place finish in the 3200 meters at the Region III-5A Championships with a time of 11:30.47 after recording a fourth-place showing at the District 22-5A Championships. She had a time of11:20.82 at the District meet, where she also finished in fourth place with a season-best time of 2:22.00 in the 800 meters. Cook also competed in the mile at Kingwood, where her season-best time was 5:12.16 at the James Giese Invitational.
Bentley is ranked among the Top three vaulters in the State by TexasTrack.com after clearing 16-4 at the Tomball Relay last March. He tied for third place after clearing 16-0 at the Region III-5A Championships after winning the District 17-5A championship.
Patterson will compete as a decathlete at Houston after throwing the discus this season at Tomball. His best throw this year was 165-3 in the discus at the Dave Bethany Relays. He also had a throw of 162-1 at the Tomball Relays and was the District 17-5A champion with a throw of 152-4. Patterson finished in fifth place at the Region III-5A Championships with a throw of 157-11.
