HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman Tania Cagnotto was honored Friday as the Conference USA Diver of the Year.
It marked the fifth straight season that a Cougar perfomer earned the award.
Cagnotto, who was a unanimous selection by the league's six head coaches, established herself as one of the finest in both UH and C-USA history.
The Bolzano, Italy, native swept all three diving events at the C-USA Championship, joining Olympian, five-time NCAA individual national champion and former Cougar Yulia Pakhalina as the only divers to accomplish that feat.
She would go on to win the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard championships at the NCAA Zone D meet and earned All-America honors in those events as well as the platform during the 2006 NCAA Championships.
Cagnotto also was a seven-time C-USA Diver of the Week honoree, setting a new UH single-season record record in that category.
SMU's Flavia Rigamonti was honored as the C-USA Swimmer of the Year.
Conference USA will announce the 2006 Freshman Swimmer and Diver of the Year recipients next week. Please see the Conference USA website for more information.
