Golf Wraps up Regular Season this Weekend

CARY, N.C. - The University of Houston golf team wraps up its 2005-06 regular season this weekend when it tees off at the Courtyard by Marriott Intercollegiate.
The tournament is scheduled to be played Friday through Saturday at MacGregor Down's Country Club on the 6,787-yard, par-72 course Willard Byrd layout. The 54-hole event begins at 6:33 a.m. (CDT), Friday with tee times on the first and 10th tees. The second round is set with tee times beginning at 11:33 a.m. (CDT).
The final 18 holes are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. (CDT), Saturday.

The Cougars, who are ranked No. 43 in the latest Golfweek poll, join a competitive field, including Colorado, Duke, Georgia Southern, Kansas, Kent State, Kentucky, North Carolina, Rice, Tulsa, UNC Wilmington, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech and host North Carolina State.
This will be the Cougars' final tune-up before the Conference USA Championship on April 17-19 at Old Waverly Country Club in West Point, Miss. It also will be the team's first action since finishing third at the UALR First/Tee Collegiate Classic on March 28-29 in Little Rock, Ark.
At that latter tournament, junior Pablo Acuna posted a score of 2-under-par 214 to tie for second place. With that finish, he also moved into the team lead with a 72.0 scoring average.
Junior Ricky Romano is a close second at 72.2 after tying for ninth at the UALR tournament.
Sophomore Jordan Irwin and seniors Zach Mowbray and Kevin Newman also are scheduled to compete for the Cougars at the tournament.
