Houston wins Five Events At Albuquerque Invitational

Albuquerque, N.M. - The University of Houston won five events and claimed five second-place finishes at the University of New Mexico Albuquerque Invitational on Saturday, February 11.
Houston's individual champions were Ebonie Floyd, Keisha Howard, LaDedra Guy, Cheryl Garner, Preston Perry and Tristian Whitely.
Floyd won the 200 meters with a season-best time of 23.74 seconds before running the anchor leg on Houston's winning 4x400-meter relay team. She joined Howard, Garner and Guy to post a season-best time of 3:38.41.
Floyd finished just ahead of Guy in the 200 meters, who was the runner-up in both the 60 and 200 meters with season-best times of 7.41 seconds and 24.02 seconds in both events.
Howard also was the top collegiate performer in the 400 meters as she finished with a time of 54.84 seconds.
The other top competitors for the Lady Cougars were freshmen Seun Adigun and Alexi Rogers in the 60-meter hurdles, and Caresir Hamilton in the triple jump.
Adigun and Rogers were among the top five hurdlers in the 60-meter hurdles, as Adigun finished in fourth place with a time of 8.72 seconds, and Rogers had a time of 8.76 seconds to finish in fifth place.
Hamilton also finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.37 meters (40-7).
In the men's division, Houston's two champions were Preston Perry and Tristian Whitley.
Perry won the 60 meters with a time of 6.76 seconds, and had a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.79 seconds.
Whitley won the high jump after a jump off against teammate Ivan Diggs after they both cleared 2.12 meters (6-11.50).
Sophomore Kolee Latson was the runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 48.20 seconds, while junior Chris White had a third-place time of 1:56.21 in the 800 meters.
Lucas Mireles was the runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 15.54 meters (51 feet).
Tremaine Smith had a third-place showing in the 200 meters with a time of 21.50 seconds, and finished fourth in the 60 meters with a time of 6.91 seconds.
In the triple jump, Houston had two of the top five performers as Vincent Marshall had a mark of 14.47 meters (47-5.75) to finish in fourth place, while Jeremy Kelley was fifth with a leap of 13.89 meters (45-7).
Houston will not compete again until the Cougars are the hosts for the Conference USA Championships on February 24-25.
