HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore diver Anastasia Pozdniakova was honored Tuesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
It was the fourth time this season and the sixth time in her career that Pozdniakova collected the league's weekly award. However, it was the fifth honor for a Cougar diver in 2006-07.
Pozdniakova was the Cougars' leading performer at last weekend's Texas Invitational in Austin, winning both the 1- and 3-meter springboard events. The Elektrostal, Russia, native scored 383.10 points in the 3-meter finals to win by nearly 27 points and finished with 316.70 points to take top honors by nearly 40 points.
She was the only diver to crack 300.00 points on the 1-meter board and accomplished that feat in both the preliminaries and finals.
Rice's Erin Mattson was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week.
The Cougars return to action on Dec. 30 when they compete at the Hawai'i Relay Meet in Honolulu, Hawai'I, on Dec. 30. While visiting the Aloha State, the team also will meet South Dakota in an NCAA dual meet at 5 p.m., Jan. 3.
Both teams won't return to the friendly confines of the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium until Jan. 21 when they play host to North Texas, New Mexico State and Florida International in a quad-meet.
All Cougar Swimming and Diving regular-season, home meets are free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
