HOUSTON -- The University of Houston football team practiced for two hours Sunday in shoulder pads and helmets on the UH practice fields in preparation for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl on Friday, Dec. 29 in Memphis, Tenn.
"Our guys are doing a great job of focusing. We've had great leadership all year long in our seniors and the leaders of our team have stepped up. Our focus, our mission, our goal is to be a better football team on the 29th than we were on the first day of the month. That's our drive everyday so we have to continue to keep our mind fresh and our body tough," said head coach Art Briles.
Houston will practice during the first three days of the week before breaking for the Christmas holiday. They will return for a light practice Christmas night before leaving Dec. 26 for Memphis.
"Before the break we need to work on increasing our mental awareness and emphasizing our physical toughness and understand that the opportunities arise because of the opportunities fulfilled. We've fulfilled our opportunities so a big one has arisen. We've earned this opportunity so we need to take full advantage of it," said Briles.
