2006 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 7-3 overall in 2006 and are bowl eligible... If the Cougars are selected for a bowl at the end of the regular season, they will compete in a bowl game for the third time in the last four years... It will mark the first time that UH has appeared in three bowls in four years since the 1978-81 Cougar teams competed in four straight bowl games (1978 Cotton; 1979 Cotton; 1980 Garden State and 1981 Sun).
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars recorded their seventh victory in 2006... It marks the first time since 2003 that the Cougars have won seven games in one season... The Cougars have not won at least eight games in one season since the 1990 team posted a 10-1 record.
** Houston improved to 31-27-3 (.555) all-time in its Homecoming games... With Saturday's win, the Cougars won their third straight Homecoming game.
** Houston improved to 17-15 (.531) in the all-time series against Tulsa.
** Houston improved to 117-96-4 (.548) in the all-time series in the month of November.
** Houston improved to 26-25-1 (.510) all-time against NCAA Division I-A teams from the state of Oklahoma.
** Houston improved to 78-65-1 (.545) all-time against current Conference USA teams.
** Houston improved to 5-2 (.714) all-time when playing on Nov. 4.
** With 460 yards of total offense, the Cougars topped the 400-yard milestone for the 30th time under head coach Art Briles.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb made the 46th consecutive start of his career... With that total, he added to his UH record total for the most consecutive starts by a quarterback in UH history... His streak ties Val Belcher (1973-76) who played in 46 straight games in his career... Up next in the UH records book is Thomas Gafford, who played in 47 straight games from 2001 to 2004... Kade Lane (2002-05) played in 48 consecutive games during his career for the UH record.
** With 46 career starts, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into a tie with Kevin Sweeney (Fresno State, 1982-86), Tommy Hodson (LSU, 1986-89), Alex Van Pelt (Pittsburgh, 1989-92) and Gino Guidugli (Cincinnati, 2001-04) for seventh most in NCAA Division I-A history... Up next in the UH records book is Fresno State's Mark Barsotti who started 47 straight games from 1988-91.
** With 263 yards of total offense (244 pass, 19 rush), senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Louisiana Tech quarterback Tim Rattay into sixth place in NCAA career history with 12,725 yards (12,007 pass, 718 rush)... Up next in the NCAA records book is Louisiana Tech quarterback Luke McCown who racked up 12,731 yards of total offense (12,666 pass, 65 rush) in his career from 2000 to 2003.
** With 244 passing yards, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Marshall quarterback Byron Leftwitch into eighth place in NCAA career history with 12,007 career passing yards... Up next in the NCAA records book is Texas Tech quarterback Kliff Kingsbury, who threw for 12,429 yards from 1999 to 2002.
** With 54 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved past Elmo Wright (1968-70, 3,347 yards) and set a UH career record with 3,359 receiving yards.
** With his catch around the 8:55 mark of the first quarter, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a pass in his 46th consecutive game... He added to his UH record, topping the previous best of 43 straight games by wide receiver Orlando Iglesias (1997-01).
** With his 14-yard touchdown catch at the :05 mark of the second quarter, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into sole possession of fourth place in UH career history with 23 career touchdown catches... Up next in the UH records book is Brandon Middleton who caught 24 touchdown passes from 1999 to 2003.
** With his 14-yard touchdown catch at the :05 mark of the second quarter, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into sole possession of ninth place in UH career history with 24 career touchdowns... Up next in the UH records book are Paul Gipson (1966-68) and Joffrey Reynolds (1999-02) who each scored 24 touchdowns during their careers..
** With 113 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery recorded the fourth 100-yard receiving game of his career and his first of the 2006 season... The Cougars improved to 1-3 (.250) when Avery tallies triple-digit receiving yards.
** With his 1-yard rushing touchdown at the 9:39 mark of the third quarter, senior running back Jackie Battle recorded his 11th rushing touchdown of the 2006 season... That tied with Gene Shannon (1951), Paul Gipson (1967), Jim Strong (1969), Tommy Mozisek (1970), Alois Blackwell (1977) for the sixth most in UH single-season history... Up next in the UH records book are Robert Newhouse (1971), Leonard Parker (1973) and Ketric Sanford (1999) who rushed for 12 yards during their respective seasons.
** With 136 rushing yards, junior wide receiver Anthony Alridge recorded the third 100-yard rushing game of his career... The Cougars improved to 3-0 (1.000) when Alridge rushes in triple digits.
** Senior running back Roshawn Pope competed in the 47th game of his collegiate career to tie for third place in UH career history with Thomas Gafford who played in 47 games from 2001-04... Larry Shepherd holds the UH record with 48 games played from 1981-85.
** Junior wide receiver Jeron Harvey's interception at the end of the first half was the first pickoff of his collegiate career.
** With two field goals, sophomore kicker Ben Bell recorded his fourth game and the seventh game of his collegiate career with at least two field goals.
