HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore diver Anastasia Pozdniakova was honored Tuesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
It was the third time this season and the fifth time in her career that Pozdniakova collected the league's weekly award. However, it was the fourth honor for a Cougar diver in 2006-07.
Pozdniakova, a native of Elektrostal, Russia, helped lead the Cougar divers during the Art Adamson Invitational in College Station last weekend.
The reigning C-USA Freshman Diver of the Year won the 1-meter competition with 311.45 points to finish more than five points ahead of her closest competitor.
Pozdniakova finished third on the 3-meter board with 311.00 points after posting a meet-high 325.40 points in the preliminaries of that event
SMU's Petra Klosova was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week for the second time in 2006-07.
The Cougars will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action in a pair of road meets on Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The swimmers will take part at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, while the divers will compete at the Texas Invitational in Austin.
Both teams won't return to the friendly confines of the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium until Jan. 21 when they play host to North Texas, New Mexico State and Florida International in a quad-meet.
All Cougar Swimming and Diving regular-season, home meets are free and open to the public, which is invited to attend.
