HOUSTON - After winning four straight meets last weekend, the University of Houston swimming and diving team swept the Conference USA weekly honors when senior Szintia Szanto and senior Anna Kiess were honored Tuesday as the league's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.
It was the seventh time that Kiess has won the league's weekly diving honor and the third award for Szanto.
Both student-athletes helped lead the Cougars to a 4-0 start for the first time in school history with back-to-back tri-meet sweeps at host New Mexico State and Northern Colorado last weekend.
Szanto, a native of Budapest, Hungary, claimed first place in four individual events and was a member of two winning medley relay teams. She finished first in three events on Saturday, including the 200-yard individual medley in which her time of 2:03.12 was the second fastest in UH history.
Kiess was equally impressive in the diving events, sweeping the 3-meter springboard competition on both days. The Hanover, Germany, native also finished second on the 1-meter board on Friday with 286.70 points.
The Cougar Swimming team returns to action at 5 p.m., Friday when it faces Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas. Both teams reunite for the home opener at 10 a.m., Oct. 28, against C-USA rival SMU and Oregon State at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium.
Fans should note that the starting time for the home opener on Oct. 28 was recently moved up to accommodate CSTV's broadcast of the Houston-UCF Football game later that day at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
