Golf Finishes Fourth at Kansas Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. - For the second straight round, University of Houston junior Pablo Acuna fired a career-low 67 on Tuesday to jump into second place following the final round of the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club.
Acuna, who capped his second round of the day with his first 67 Monday evening, finished the 54-hole tournament on the 7,092-yard, par-72 course at 8-under-par 208. It was his best finish at a collegiate tournament.
As a team, the Cougars remained steady throughout the tournament and posted a team score of 7-under-par 857 to finish in fourth place. Host Kansas won the team championship with a score of 852, while Tulsa was second at 855. Louisiana-Monroe moved past the Cougars in the final team standings after shooting a 283 during the final round and finished at 856.
Western Kentucky's Robby Shaw won medallist honors after recording three straight sub-70 rounds to finish at 206.
Junior Ricky Romano and senior Kevin Newman each finished at 1-under-par 215 to tie for 16th place to help lead the Cougars. Sophomore Jordan finished in a tie for 38th place at 220, while senior Zach Mowbray tied for 56th place at 224.
The Kansas Invitational was the Cougars' second tournament in a three-week span to open the 2005-06 season. UH returns to action Sept. 26-27 when it tees off at the Adams Cup of Newport.
