HOUSTON - Sophomore diver Anna Kiess was recently honored as the Female Cougar of the Year during the University of Houston's annual All-Sports Banquet.
Kiess finished as the National Runner-up on the platform during the 2005 NCAA Championships. With that finish, Kiess was named an All-American for the third time in her illustrious career.
The Berlin, Germany, native was a leader for the Cougars throughout the 2004-05 season, winning four C-USA Diver of the Week honors during the regular season.
When the Cougars headed into the C-USA Championship at their own Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium in late February, Kiess was again a consistent performer, earning the 1-meter diving championship, her third C-USA title.
Finally, Kiess proved to be the epitome of the term student-athlete as she was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll for the second straight year after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
With impressive performances like that, there was little wonder that she was honored as the Conference USA Diver of the Year in voting done by the coaches at the end of the season
Stanford Routt, who was a member of the Cougar Football and Men's Track and Field teams, was named the Male Cougar of the Year.
