Pozdniakova Named C-USA Diver of the Week

HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman Anastasia Pozdniakova was honored Tuesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week.
Pozdniakova, a native of Elektrostal, Russia, won the 1-meter event and finished second on the 3-meter springboard to help lead the Cougars to a 1-1 dual-meet record against Arkansas and Texas A&M last week.
She earned her first collegiate win after earning 319.73 points on the 1-meter springboard against Arkansas Pozdniakova finished second on the 3-meter event and was one of only two divers to crack 300 points against the Lady Razorbacks.
One day later, she scored 296.85 points to win the 1-meter event and finished second in the 3-meter competition.
It was the first weekly honor for Pozdniakova and the third time in the first four weeks of the 2005-06 season that a Cougar diver earned the award. Freshman Tania Cagnotto was named C-USA Diver of the Week in back-to-back weeks to open the season.
It also was the 25th time since the 2001-02 season that a Cougar was named C-USA Diver of the Week.
SMU's Flavia Rigamonti was named the C-USA Swimmer of the Week.
Pozdniakova and her Cougar teammates return to action when they face Wyoming, new C-USA rival SMU and host North Texas at 5 p.m., Friday, in a tri-meet at Denton, Texas.
