Sesar Figueroa Finishes In 188th place at NCAA Championships

Terre Haute, Ind.- - University of Houston senior Sesar Figueroa posted a time of 31:47.4 to finish in 188th place out of 253 competitors at the NCAA Championships Monday afternoon.
The lone men's individual competitor from Conference USA, Figueroa began the race with a pace of 15:33 in the first five kilometers, and posted a time of 25:21 at the eight-kilometer split.
This marked the first time in his career that Figueroa had qualified to compete in the NCAA Championships after earning All-Conference USA honors for the third time this season. He also earned All-Regional honors after an 11th-place showing at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships to qualify for the NCAA meet.
Figueroa was one of three individual competitors from the South Central Regional Championships to qualify. The other two were Westly Keating of Texas-Pan American and Kip Kangogo of TCU.
C-USA men's team champion UTEP, which entered the meet ranked eighth nationally, finished in 14th place in the men's team standings. Stephen Samoei, who turned in a time of 30:07.50 to finish in 20th place, paced the Miners. He was followed by Japheth Ngojoy, who finished in 22nd place with a time of 30:08.00.
Figueroa will compete for Houston's defending Conference USA Indoor Championship team when Houston's indoor season begins in January.
