HOUSTON, Texas - The university is hosting the inaugural 'Cougar Showcase' at Hofheinz Pavilion on Tuesday, November 8th as part Homecoming 2005. The event, which teams Athletics with the annual "Strut Your Stuff" student-run talent show, starts at 7:00 p.m. and is free to everyone.
There will be a football pep rally involving the University of Houston marching band, the dance team, and the cheerleaders in anticipation of the following Sunday's game against Southern Miss. Two seniors on the team and Head Coach Art Briles will address the crowd and the team will throw out free t-shirts into the stands.
The 2005-2006 men's and women's basketball teams will also be introduced and will showcase their skills on the court. The women's team will conduct a "Two Ball Contest" involving four lucky fans and the men's team will conduct a 10-minute, full-court scrimmage.
In addition to Briles, women's Head Coach Joe Curl, men's Head Coach Tom Penders, and Athletic Director Dave Maggard will be speaking at the event as well. Two trips to both the men's and women's Conference USA Basketball Championships will be given away during the course of the evening.
Cougar fans of all ages are encouraged to attend this event showcasing this year's men's and women's basketball teams and preparing for the 2005 homecoming football game on November 13th.
