HOUSTON - University of Houston freshman Tania Cagnotto was honored Wednesday as the Conference USA Diver of the Week after helping lead the Cougars to a pair of close losses last week.
In her first collegiate competition, Cagnotto recorded 315.60 points to finish nearly 40 points ahead of her closest competitor on the 1-meter springboard during a double-dual meet against Rice and host Texas.
She followed that with top honors on the 3-meter board, scoring 327.38 points to rank as the only diver to top 300 points in both events.
Despite falling 57-56 to Texas and 67-44 to Rice, the Cougars fell in their closest decision in the all-time series against Texas and the closest competition against Rice since 1998-99 campaign.
Rice's Amy Halsey was honored as the league's Swimmer of the Week.
Cagnotto and her Cougar teammates return to action at 3 p.m., Saturday as they play host to North Texas in a double-dual meet at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium on the Houston campus.
