Houston wins four events at LSU Relays

Baton Rouge, La.- - The University of Houston won four events and had seven athletes qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships at the LSU Relays. Jonathan Reeves, Derek Randall, Shayla Bowman and Sesar Figueroa won the men's shot put, men's discus throw, women's hammer throw and men's 5,000 meters, respectively.
Reeves won the men's shot put and qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships with a mark of 57-8.50. Reeves also finished ninth in the discus with a throw of 153-5.
Shayla Bowman won the women's hammer and was a regional qualifier with a throw of 177-5.
Randall won the men's discus throw and qualified for the NCAA Regional meet for the second straight year with a throw of 178-8. In the running events Figueroa won the men's 5000-meter run with a time of 15:12.42. Brent Henson was the runner-up in the race in 15:16.79
Andrew Carruthers was the runner-up in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a NCAA Regional qualifying time of 14.12 seconds. Alicia Cave also qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.90 seconds.
Terie Littlepage had a third-place finish in the women's steeplechase with a time of 12:29.29.
Preston Perry had a fourth-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.66 seconds.
In the other field events, Caresir Hamilton was the runner-up in the women's triple jump and qualified for the NCAA Regional meet with a leap of 40-6 and finished 11th in the long jump with a mark of 18-6.50.
Tinisha Wesley finished fifth in the women's shot put with a mark of 45-6.25.
The Cougars had three of the top seven competitors in the men's pole vault. Daniel Patton finished in second place and Tom Rusteberg finished third after both cleared 15-11. Alex Cantu finished in seventh place with a vault of 15-5. Jessica Edwards was the runner-up in the women's pole vault after clearing 11-3.75.
Rachel Easley finished sixth in the triple jump event with a mark of 38-0. Krystal Ward had a third-place finish in the women's high jump after she cleared 5-8.
Tristian Whitley had a third-place finish in the men's high jump with a leap of 6-8.75. Jason Edwards finish sixth in the men's long jump with a jump of 23-8.25.
Houston will travel to Austin and compete in the Texas Relays on March 31-April 3.
