AUSTIN, Texas - University of Houston golf Zach Mowbray stood in a tie for sixth place Monday after the first day at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
The sophomore co-captain fired a season-best 3-under-par 69 during Monday's morning round and followed that with a 72 in the afternoon session to stand at 3-under-par 141.
The tournament concludes at 8 a.m., Tuesday with players teeing off on both holes No. 1 and No. 10.
This was the first action for the Cougars in more than a month after heavy rained forced the cancellation of the Southeastern Louisiana/Beau Chene Intercollegiate on Feb.11-13.
As a team, the Cougars stood in 14th place after shooting 599 through 36 holes on the 6,906-yard, par-72 course at the Austin Country Club.
Play was suspended with 15 golfers from three teams still on the course finishing their second rounds.
Other Cougars in action on Monday were Ricky Romano (t-47th, 73-77 - 150), Denton Walker (t-52nd, 73-78 - 151), Blake Parks (t-73rd, 77-81 - 158) and Kevin Newman (75th, 79-80 - 159).
