Houston, Texas- - The University of Houston wrapped up its preparations for Saturday's Conference USA game against Tulane with a two-hour practice on the Cougar practice fields.
"I thought we had a good practice today," Houston head football coach Art Briles said. "It was full of intensity and emotion. We just have to take that to game this Saturday."
Following the practice, Briles put his team through a workout inside Houston's weight room.
"Lifting weights helps our guys maintain their weight throughout the season," Briles said. "It also gives them a sense of accomplishment and helps to build self confidence."
Saturday's game against Tulane kickoffs at 4:00 p.m. on John O'Quinn Field, marking the first time since September 18 that the Cougars have played a game on their home field. Houston did play a home game against fourth-ranked Miami at Reliant Stadium on September 23. Following the Miami game, Houston played three straight road games at Memphis, Southern Miss and TCU.
Tulane comes into the game with a 2-4 overall record after a 59-55 victory over UAB last Saturday. This marks the eighth time in the last nine years that the two schools have played on the gridiron. The Cougars have a 5-4 overall series record against the Green Wave after winning a 45-42 victory at Tulane last year.
The game can be heard live on KTRH (740 AM) beginning with a pregame show 45 minutes before kickoff. The "Voice of the Cougars", Tom Franklin, calls the play-by-play, and former UH defensive line coach Tony Fitzpatrick provides color commentary. Former all-conference center Chuck Brown serves as the sideline reporter. The Houston ISP Sports Network also includes KSTV-FM (93.1 in Stephenville), KBW-AM (1010 in Waco) and KKTX-AM (1360 in Corpus Christi).
