CHOUDRANT, La. - Ricky Romano and Pablo Acuna ranked among the Top 10 individual leaders after the first day Monday to help lead the University of Houston golf team to a third-place standing at the Squire Creek Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club.
After firing a team score of 301 during the first 18 holes, UH rebounded to record a team mark of 291 in the afternoon session, the second-lowest round of the tournament. He tied with Arkansas-Little Rock's Patrick Sullivan and Texas-Arlington's Jeff Murray at even-par 144.
Acuna has been another steady performer for the Cougars this season and tied with four other golfers at 3-over-par 147. The Guatemala native shot an even-par 72 during his first 18 holes of the day.
