After posting NCAA-provisional marks while capturing first place in both the men's 60-meter and 200-meter races in the Leonard Hilton Memorial on Jan. 23, Houston sprinter Stanford Routt was named Conference USA Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25.
An All-American in 2003, Routt's time of 6.67 second in the finals of the men's 60-meter race (he ran 6.69 in the prelims) was not only a provisional mark, it set a new meet record and was a personal best. His previous career-best was 6.70 seconds in the Leonard Hilton Memorial on Jan. 18, 2003.
Routt's finish time in the 200-meter dash was 21.13 seconds, just behind his career-best of 20.97 seconds, set last year.
The two races were the first for Routt, a junior, of this 2004 indoor season.
