The University of Houston men's track and field team will enter this weekend's Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships ranked 15th in the latest Trackshark.com Men's Top 25 poll. The poll utilizes ranks from Trackwire and the USTCA polls as head to head competition at team dual meets. Houston won the Tom Tellez Invitational dual meet against teams from Baylor, Syracuse, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU.
The Cougars enter the C-USA Championships with 14 qualifiers for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Lincoln, Neb. on May 30-31. In the men's division, Houston's NCAA Regional qualifiers are All-American Robert Foster and Fred Day in the 100-meter dash, Stanford Routt in the 200-meter dash, Andrew Carruthers in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles, Milton Manson in the 110-meter hurdles, Brandon Womack, Day, Preston Perry, Foster Dameon Williams and Jason Hodge in the 4x100-meter relay, Daniel Patton and Alex Cantu in the pole vault, Brandon Bray and Jason Edwards in the long jump, and Derek Randall in the discus throw.
The Cougars will be looking to win their fifth overall C-USA Outdoor Title in Charlotte and first since 2001. Houston won the 2003 C-USA Indoor Championships on February 28-March 1 in Houston. It was the Cougars' fifth NCAA Indoor title.
