Cougar Golf Finishes 16th At The Cleveland Golf Classic

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. - The University of Houston golf team finished in 16th place Tuesday after the final 18 holes of the Cleveland Golf Classic at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
The Cougars posted a team score of 290 on the 6,815-yard, par 71 to finish the tournament with a combined score of 6-over-par, 881. UCLA took top team honors with 7-under-par, 845.
Leading the Cougars was Brett Callas who bounced back Tuesday to shoot 1-under-par 70 and finish the event at 4-over-par 217 to tie for 23rd place.
Other Cougar golfers were Kevin Newman (T-35th, 219), John Wine (T-68th, 225), Zach Mowbray (T-74th, 226) and Denton Walker (T-79th, 227). Individually, UCLA's Steve Conway walked away with the individual championship with a 6-under-par 207.
California, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Stanford rounded out the top five team leaders.
The Cougars do not return to action until March 17-18 when they participate in the Morris Williams Intercollegiate at the Austin Country Club in Austin.
