HOUSTON, Texas - After their turnaround, bowl-bound season, the University of Houston Cougars accepted more accolades today, as three members of its offensive unit were honored by ESPN.com.
The storybook season for freshman quarterback Kevin Kolb continued, as he was named Conference USA Newcomer of the Year by the online media outlet. A pair of seniors, center Rex Hadnot and wide receiver Brandon Middleton, added ESPN.com All-Conference USA First Team awards to their shelves.
As a team, the Cougars were picked by ESPN.com as Conference USA's Biggest Surprise.
Kolb has already been selected as College Football News' national Offensive Freshman of the Year, as well as CFN freshman first-teamer to go along with his Third Team, Freshman All-America honor from The Sporting News. Last week the league's head coaches and media named Kolb Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
As for the senior duo, Hadnot and Middleton add another first-team trophy to their First Team, Conference USA honor received last week. Middleton also was selected an honorable mention, All-America by Sports Illustrated.com.
The Cougars will return to the postseason for the first time in seven years, traveling to Honolulu on Christmas Day to face the University of Hawai'i in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl. The game will televised live on ESPN beginning at 7 pm CST.
