Andre Bramwell: How can i get in touch with you? I am looking to hopefully run track at UH next year and am looking to find more info about your track program.
Leroy Burrell: You can contact us at uhtrack@uh.edu. Thanks for your interest.
japan: I have teammates who lack dedication and faith in my coach but yet they respect him!! how do a team still go forward? good luck at conference!!! go coogs!!
Leroy Burrell: I believe that the coach-athlete relationship is extremely important. I don't think that you can respect someone and not be dedicated and faith in him. They should meet with the coach and try to resolve the issues.
Brian (Los Gatos,CAL): Coach: Congratulations on the Women winning the C-USA Indoor Championships! What is it going to take for UH to win the Women's and Men's C-USA Outdoor Championships?
Leroy Burrell: I think the women need to continue building on their indoor performances. They have been competing well as a team during the outdoor. I believe the women are better than our men's team. They have been better in the sprints. We have been getting a little better performances out of our distance runners. We are also very deep in the multi-events. They have some cushion in various events.
The men have been sprinting better during the outdoor season and the multi-events have been performing well during the outdoor season. But, the big issue with them is confidence. They have to believe in themselves. But, they can't afford any mistakes.
Robin(Atlanta): Coach Burrell, I have an athlete he is extremely powerful and has run good times, but he has very slow turnover, how can I improve that.
Leroy Burrell: Send him to our camp this summer. We can work with them during the week. The camp is June 24-27.
Tim(L.A): Hey Coach,Please tell me what is the most important thing to being a 100 meter sprinter.Thank you
Leroy Burrell: The most important thing is talent. You can't do anything without talent. Beyond that, it is important to train well and have confidence.
Jayheim: Hey Mr.Burrell.What are the pleasures and joys of coaching that you get?
Leroy Burrell: One of the things I really enjoy is seeing people reach their goals. I enjoy being a facilitator in helping people live out their dreams. I also enjoy working with young people because there is nothing like the energy they create when they are working hard to reach their goals.
Paul (Houston): Will you be hosting an NCAA Last Chance Meet as you did last year?
Leroy Burrell: No we are not.
braylon-houston: next years mens and womens team with the new recruits coming in it looks as though we could be competive on a national level except the mens 4x4.will you be able put together a mens 4x4 that can compete nationally next year
Leroy Burrell: As far as the men are concerned, the one disapointment this year has been the men's 4x400 relay. We are bringing in some kids next year that will give us some improvement. We want to average out to a split 47 next year.
dallas: Mr. Burrell, How do you feel about the additional recuits you brought in for the 2002-03 year? and what do you think your women 4x400 will run?
Leroy Burrell: We have an outstanding recruiting class for the women. We have Ebony Floyd, who ran 54.3, Renee Clarke, who ran in the 54's this year, along with Kisha Howard from Dallas, who has run in the 55's this year. We should run in the 3:31's next year. Our women's team has improved each week and our goal is for our women's team to get back among the top 10 teams nationally. We just need someone to emerge as a superstar.
Pete (Houston): Do you think UH track will be able to compete with UT or Arkansas track in the near furture?
Leroy Burrell: Certainly. We compete with them in some events now. The UT women are building a team that is threatening to win a national championships. We also are moving among the top 10. If you are in the top 10, you are going to be competitive.
Arkansas has won several men's championships, and our men's team has further ground to cover before they catch them. But, we are signing some student-athletes that they wanted to sign. So that gives us some confidence that we are improving as a team.
Captain Cougar (Sugar Land): Coach, one more time, how do you feel about the state of UH Athletics? Do you think we are on the verge of turning the corner in all sports?
Leroy Burrell: I think that all of our Olympic Sports are doing okay. They have kids competing on the national level now. Men's basketball seems to have turned the corner. We just have to support the football team and help them through this difficult time. All of the Cougar fans need to support them this fall. They are on the verge of improving tremendously. We just need to support them and help them achieve the same success our Olympics sports have enjoyed.
Moderator: Coach, Burrell thank you for your time during today's session.
