ARDMORE, Okla. - The University of Houston golf team competes in its final regular-season tournament when it takes part in The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla., this weekend.
The Cougars compete at The Maxwell for the 11th straight season and have posted top-10 team finishes in each of the last three seasons. UH joins Arkansas, Colorado, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Tulsa on the 6,442-yard, par-70 course at the Dornick Hills Country Club.
The tournament begins with 36 holes scheduled for Saturday and the final 18 holes on Sunday. Saturday begins with an 8 a.m. start and continues with the second round slated to begin around 2:15 p.m.
Head coach Mike Dirks and his Cougar squad hope to use the tournament as a valuable tune-up before competing in the NCAA Central Regional on May 16-18 at Little Rock, Ark. UH advanced to the NCAA postseason for the sixth consecutive season after receiving an at-large bid on Monday.
The Cougars come into the tournament on the heels of a second-place finish at the Conference USA Championships on April 22-24. Junior Simon Robinson led the Cougars at the league's annual postseason event with a score of 6-under-par 210 on the way to earning All-C-USA and C-USA All-Tournament Team honors.
Robinson leads the Cougars with a 73.1 scoring average, nearly a full stroke better than sophomore Brad McIntosh.
