Five Cougars Place At Texas Relays

Austin, Texas- - Five members of the University of Houston men's track and field team finished among the top eight performers in their respective events at the Texas Relays on April 3-6 in Austin, Texas.
Redshirt freshman Jason Banes led the way with a second-place finish in the Men's Invitational 10,000-meter run with a career-best time of 31:37.83. It was the first time Banes has run in a 10,000-meter race as a collegian. His teammate, Ronnie Martinez, was 11th in the race with a time of 33:06.43.
Senior Adam Callahan scored 6,752 points to finish in fifth place in the men's invitational decathlon.
Freshmen Milton Manson and Andrew Carruthers also place in the hurdles. Manson was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.14 seconds. Carruthers was eighth in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 52.63 seconds.
Mike Olague completed the 5,000-meter course in 14:50.90 to finish ninth, while Sean Clayton was ninth in the University/College "B" section triple jump with a leap of 49 feet, 6 ? inches.
Juan Cardenas was 12th in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:58.86.
Houston also finished in 12th place in two relay races. The Cougars had a time of 1:26.63 in the 4x200-meter relay and 7:47.03 in the 4x800-meter relay.
