Moderator: Good morning everyone,
Thank you for joining us today in the UH chat room. We are fortunate to have with us UH golf head coach Mike Dirks and assistant coach Chip Huston. We plan on spending about 15 to 20 minutes with your questions, so please feel free to ask at any time.
Thanks again for joining us. Let's begin with the first questions.
Carlos: Hello Coach, Can you give us a status report on the new home course for the UH golf program?
Mike Dirks: The projected home course for the Cougar golf team is in a holding pattern as of today. There is still interest from many parties in trying to make the project a successful one. Cougar Golf would benefit greatly from a home golf course and practice facility.
Sydney: being a friend of Brad Mcintosh I am watching with interest his recent good form, can you comment on his overall ability, strengths and areas he needs to work on
Jeff Stone
Mike Dirks: After a slow start to this school year, Brad has started to regain the form that he had during his freshman year with two top-10 finishes in his last three tournaments.
Brad's strengths include his length off the tee, his short game and putting. Those seem to be coming around.
Brad needs to work on his course management and his patience. By doing this, he should have a chance to contend individually in each tournament that he plays.
Rob (Katy): How would you rate the team's performance so far this year?
Mike Dirks: So far this year, the team has underachieved. As of the last few tournaments, there have been a lot of positives from every one on the team. If we can all play to our capabilities at the same time, we will have a chance to compete at a high level at the NCAA Championships.
Brett (Pearland): How do you think will do at the Conference USA Tournament and who are the teams to beat?
Mike Dirks: Brad McIntosh is the defending individual champion and Simon Robinson finished third at last year's tournament. With the success that these two have had at Hidden Creek Country Club, we expect to contend again for the conference championship.
The teams that will challenge us this year are TCU and UAB.
Bill (Baltimore): What is the one skill that college golfers seem to need to work on the most?
Mike Dirks: College golfers have a hard time accepting bad golf shots. When they realize that every shot they hit is not going to be a perfect one, they will then have a chance to post a score they can accept.
Moderator: Are there any more questions out there for Coach Dirks or Coach Huston?
Mike Dirks: We're looking forward to the finish of the season. With seven tournaments remaining, we have a chance to regain some of the confidence that we've had in the past. That should make for an exciting finish to this season.
Moderator: Thanks to every one who participated in today's on-line chat. Thanks again to head coach Mike Dirks and assistant coach Chip Huston for taking time to talk.
The Cougars return to action on Monday and Tuesday when they compete at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas.
Thanks again to every one who participated today. Stay tuned to www.uhcougars.com for more information about upcoming on-line chats with UH coaches.
Have a great day!
