Pakhalina Named Conference USA Diver of the Week

HOUSTON, Texas - In what has become a weekly tradition, University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina was named the Conference USA Diver of the Week on Tuesday.
Pakhalina, the 2001 NCAA national champion on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, collected the weekly honor for the fifth time this season in only nine weeks that the award has been handed out.
The Penza, Russia, native claimed first place on both springboards at Texas A&M last weekend. She ran her event winning streak to 31 straight events and has never lost a collegiate diving event in which she has entered. This season, Pakhalina has won 21 straight diving events.
She and her Cougar teammates are enjoying a lengthy break from the competitive waters but return to action Feb. 17-19 when it competes in the first-ever Conference USA Championships at Indianapolis, Ind.
