HOUSTON - Bill Yeoman, former UH head football coach and member of the College Football Hall of Fame --- "First of all, I am overjoyed. The reason being that he is a football coach. More importantly, he makes ordinary people do extraordinary things."
Glenn Odell, former UH quarterback who played for Coach Briles at Stephenville High School --- "I can't wipe the smile off my face. I am really excited about Coach Briles becoming the new head coach at my alma mater. He is a fantastic leader on and off the field. He will step up to the challenge and bring a championship to Houston. His goals have always been to win football games. That is the bottom line. This is awesome for the Cougars."
Alois Blackwell, former UH teammate and current Athletic Director at Texas Southern University --- "What I remember most about Art as a player is that he was a very hard worker and brought that attitude with him onto the field for every practice and every game. He was a guy we could always depend on. He has worked his way up from high school to college and now back to Houston. He will bring excellence with him to UH. I can see him be quite successful in his return to Cougar football.
Chuck Brown, former UH teammate and current color analysis for the Houston-ISP Sports Network --- "I think he is a great hire for the University. He is a born winner, and one of the most competitive guys I have ever been around. He has a go-get 'em attitude from the moment he sets foot on the field. The fans and alumni will see his excitement when he is out there."
Ray Seals, head football coach at Madison High School --- "I think he is an outstanding coach. He has been in Texas for quite a while, and he knows just about everybody associated with football. I think he'll do a great job at UH, and he is what the Cougars are missing. I wouldn't mind sending my (football players) over there to play for him. Houston made a good choice in selecting Coach Briles."
Mike Leach, head football coach at Texas Tech University --- "Art is a dedicated coach with tremendous enthusiasm and passion for the coaching profession. He has been a great asset for the Red Raiders and will be the same for the University of Houston. This is a real credit to Art and both Texas Tech's and Houston's football program. He will do a tremendous job."
John Tusa, head football coach at Waco High School --- "Art Briles brings a impeccable high school and college career to Houston. He is a great innovator and not afraid to take changes on the playing field in order to win. He will make UH a very tough, physical team that will fight until the final horn. He is one of the bright coaches in all of the coaching profession."
