HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team wrapped up its weekly practice schedule Thursday in anticipation for this weekend's game against South Florida.
The Cougars, who play host to USF at 2 p.m. Saturday at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium, will face one of the nation's hottest teams. After splitting its first four games, South Florida has reeled off six straight wins and has posted an 8-2 record.
This weekend's contest will be the first of back-to-back home games for the Cougars. Following the game with the Bulls, UH meets Louisville at 2 p.m., Nov. 30 at Robertson Stadium in the regular-season finale.
"We have a big challenge this weekend and we are excited about the opportunity to play this game," said head coach Dana Dimel, who is completing his third season at the helm of the UH program. "It will be a big test for our football team and should be an emotional, intense game."
The team worked out for about 90 minutes Thursday under the lights at the UH practice fields. Following the session, Dimel said his team was ready to wrap up the regular season in front of the hometown fans.
"It's so important for us to play back at home. You hate to go on the road in November," Dimel said. "To be at home in November definitely is an advantage for our football team and one that we need to use in our favor."
This will be only the second meeting ever between these two schools on the gridiron and the first encounter in Houston. A year ago, the Bulls took a 45-6 win in Tampa, Fla.
