Houston, Texas - There will be familiar faces on each sideline of John O'Quinn Field when the University of Houston football team plays host to South Florida on Saturday, November 23. Houston head coach Dana Dimel and South Florida head coach Jim Leavitt served together as assistant coaches under Bill Snyder at Kansas State for six years before Leavitt began South Florida's program six years ago. Dimel left Kansas State the following year to become the head coach at Wyoming before being named Houston's head coach in 2000.
"We have a very competitive relationship," Dimel said. "I coached with him at Kansas State and we went through the experiences of turning that program around."
In addition, Cougar assistant coaches Frank Hernandez and Eric Wolford were assistant coaches at South Florida before joining Dimel's staff.
Hernandez spent for seasons coaching the wide receivers and kickoff and punt return artists for the Bulls. He also served as South Florida's recruiting coordinator during that span. Wolford was the offensive line coach at South Florida for three years before joining Dimel's staff in 2000.
