Cougar Classic Fun Run Scheduled For September 1

The 13th annual Cougar Classic 5K Fun Run, 5K Walk and Kids 1K Run will be September 1 on the University of Houston campus.
The race starts on the corner of Cullen Blvd. and Holman. The course runs around and through the UH campus and will finish in Olympic style with the final 200 meters around the UH indoor track inside the Athletics/Alumni Center.
The day will begin with a Little Cougar (ages 12 and under) 1K race at 7:20 a.m. The men's 5K race will start at 7:30 a.m. and the Women's 5K race will begin at 7:40.
Following the running events, there also is a coed 5K walk that starts at 7:40 a.m.
The overall champions will receive their awards at Houston's football game against cross-town rival Rice. The kickoff for the football game will be 7:00 p.m.
In addition, there are awards for the Top 50 finnishers in the men's and women's races, along with winners in the Master (40+) and Senior (55+) age groups. The top five boys and girls in each age group (9-12 and 8 and under) will receive medals.
In addition to the awards, each participant will receive a specially designed, multi-color T-shirt and commemorative cup.
The race is sanctioned by USA Track and Field and the Gulf Association of USATF.
Entry fees are $12 for runners whose registration form is postmarked by August 25 and $15 after the $25 until September 1. There is a $20 registration fee for runners who register the day of the race.
