Durham, NC - University of Houston junior Wade Ormsby completed his individal rounds at the NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon at the Duke University Golf Course in Durham, North Carolina, with a 72-hole total of 10-over par 298.
Ormsby played a full 27-holes Saturday after rain shortened play by nine holes on Friday. He finished up the first nine holes at two-over par to give him a total of 77 (+5) for the completed round. Ormsby then shot a six-over par 78 for Saturday's final 18 holes, officially completing the Cougars' 2001 collegiate season.
The native of Wollongong, Australia, managed only two birdies on the day, both in the final 18 holes. He was in fact putting for eagle on the final hole of the day but missed by just inches. He converted UH's last putt for a birdie but that was at the end of a long day that saw 15 pars and 10 bogeys over 27 holes.
Ormsby finished tied for 55th among the final 84-player individual field, which began as a 156-player field before getting cut in half after 36 holes. He had shot a 72 and 71 for the first 36 holes of the championship to make the cut as an individual participant. He was 22 shots off the NCAA individual championship won by Nick Gilliam of Florida, who carded an 11-under par 205. Gilliam led the Gators to the team championship with a 26-under par team total of 1126.
