Former University of Houston All-American Jenny Adams had a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2001 GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday.
Adams had a time of 13.11 seconds in the race and finished behind three-time world champion Gail Devers, who won the race in 12.91 seconds. World indoor champion Anjanette Kirkland was third with a time o 13.14 seconds.
"I had a rough start and I almost fell," Adams said. "I am not sure how I stayed up."
Adams also suffered an injury in the semi-finals when she finished second behind Devers in the first heat with a time of 12.95 seconds. Kirkland won the second heat in 13.13 seconds just ahead of Danielle Carruthers' time of 13.14 seconds.
The final day in Eugene was marked by rain and cold weather as temperatures dropped to 52 degrees.
"I tweaked my hamstring in the semi-finals and I was a little disappointed in my time," Adams said. "But, I made the USA team (for the IAAF World Championships August 3-12 in Edmonton), and that's what I came here for. I couldn't be any happier about that."
Adams had the fastest time in the first round of the hurdles with a wind-aided time of 12.61 seconds on Saturday. It was the second-fastest time in the world under any conditions this season.
She also was named the meet's Female Athlete of the Day on the first day after winning her first United States championship in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 22 feet and1/4 of and inch (6.71 meters). The wind reading on her jump was 2.4 meters per second, just over the 2.0 allowable.
