Ardmore, Okla - After shooting to a six-over-par 76 in the final round, Houston senior Andy Sanders finished in a tie for ninth place at the Maxwell Intercollegiate Invitational at the Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla..
Sanders led the Cougars to an eighth place overall finish in the team standings as Houston ended the tournament a three-day total of 863, which was 23-over and 15 shots behind champion Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane finished with a 8-over-par total of 848. Oklahoma State finished second at 850 and Texas was third at 853.
After shooting 67-69 the first two days Sanders led going into Sunday's round by one shot over Richard Ainley of Louisiana-Lafayette and eventual winner Anders Hultman of Oklahoma State, Sanders finished the tournament with a 54-hole total of 212 (+2). His score was eight shots back of Hultman, who closed with a three-under 67 to finish six-under 204 for the tournament. Ainley's 69 was good enough for second at 206 and Kevin Haefner of Auburn matched Ainley's 69 to place third at 209.
The other Houston finishers were Simon Robinson, who tied for 21st at 215, Conference USA medalist Brad McIntosh, who shot 217 to tie for 31st, Scott Ferguson, who tied for 58th with a 222, and senior Wade Ormsby shot a three-day total of 223 to tie for 68th.
Houston will remain in the Sooner State for the NCAA Central Regional tournament, which will be held from May 17-19 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater.
