National Student-Athlete Day is a day set aside to acknowledge the accomplishments of student-athletes in the classroom, on the playing field and in their communities. It also was created to recognize parents, teachers, coaches, universities and school systems who make it possible for young people to find balance between academics and athletics. The day was established by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports and Northeastern University's Center for the Study of Sport in Society.
Adams closed out her collegiate eligibility by winning the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Jones was selected to the Freshman All-American team by the U.S. Basketball Writers' Association and Women's Basketball Journal. She also was a first-team All-Conference USA selection, Pakhalina is a 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist and the 2001 NCAA 1-meter and 3-meter diving champion.
Penn is a running back on the Cougar football team and currently serves as vice-president on UH's student-athlete advisory board.
Sellen is a member of Houston's volleyball team that made their 12th straight NCAA appearance and serves as secretary on the student-athlete advisory board.
