KUHF Phonothon - March 24th-30th -- 7 a.m.-7 p.m. -- Call in at (713) 743-KUHF
Dear Cougars,
If you had a chance to listen to the broadcasts of our basketball games this past season on KUHF, I'm confident you'll agree that the clarity of the signal was extraordinary. KUHF, home station for Cougar basketball, engaged in a partnership with us this past season to carry the games. At year's end, which is now, they will assess the reaction of their traditional listenership regarding our involvement with the station. Initially, there was some negative feedback that a public classical station would alter its format and air Cougar sports. My contention in engaging KUHF was, including Cougar sports, we could broaden the listenership and potentially enhance the station's ability to generate new revenues. This letter is in fact to ask you to do just that.
The department would like to maintain the possibility of a continued relationship with KUHF for next season. The signal reaches, with extreme clarity, from Beaumont to beyond College Station. We've had many complements because you can listen to Cougar basketball throughout Central Texas with this fantastic signal.
During the week of March 24th-30th, KUHF will conduct their annual fund drive in support of annual operations. KUHF is a fiscally self-sustaining public broadcasting station. The generosity of their listeners carries the day when it comes to operational costs. I'm asking you to call during the phonothon (713-743-5843) and please make a donation in support of the station because they carry Cougar athletics. Make a statement that their decision to work with us was sound, and therefore, in the final analysis listenership and financial support has increased, not decreased, as they suggested it might. Whether it is $10 or $100 or more, I'm asking all of our season ticket holders and Cougar fans to help with the cause. In the future, we would like the opportunity to at least consider KUHF and possibly discuss with them expanding to football in the fall. The signal is the best in the city of Houston and bringing continuity to our radio affiliation is something we may wish to pursue.
Please call in a pledge, whatever you can afford, and let's illustrate the Cougar contingent appreciates and supports those who help us advance our athletic program.
Many thanks,
Chet Gladchuk Director of Athletics
