Cougars to Celebrate Dr. Seuss
3/1/2001 12:00:00 AM | General
The Cougars will celebrate this day at The Rice School at the corner of North Braeswood and Seuss Street. Beginning at 11 a.m., head football coach Dana Dimel and four of his assistants, as well as assistant volleyball coach Julie Miller, Associate Athletics Director Chris Burkhalter, ACE Center Supervisor Jody Johnston and various student-athletes from soccer and volleyball, will start the day with the reading of the Dr. Seuss classic, Oh, The Places You'll Go! to a group of students at the school.
This book offers a wealth of wisdom on setting goals and meeting challenges, and gently reminds readers about the endless possibilities life has to offer. The book is a great jumping off point to talk about career choices and to share with children the important role that reading plays in work.
The National Education Association, The American Library Association, Boys & Girls Club of America, the Urban League, the NAACP and the Newspaper Association of America sponsor the nationwide reading party. Last year, NEA estimates that almost 30 million children and adults celebrated Dr. Seuss and the joy of reading on March 2.
