Swimming and Diving Finishes Third at Arkansas Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Houston swimming and diving team wrapped up its 2001 fall season Saturday with a third-place finish at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Elissa Nelson, Jessica DeWitt and Stacey Ebeling each posted third-place finishes and established new Cougar season bests in their respective events to help guide the Cougars to their final team score of 791.5 points.
Washington State captured first place with 1,238 points, while UH finished ahead of Southeastern Conference opponents Tennessee and Florida.
Nelson earned a third-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:11.99, while DeWitt earned a similar ranking in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.27. Ebeling posted a time of 2:23.48 in the 200-yard breaststroke for her final standing.
In addition, 12 other Cougar swimmers set new personal season bests in the meet. Lucile Turpin (200 butterfly), Agustina Foglietta (1,650 freestyle), Jessica Blake (200 backstroke), Vicki Blocker (200 backstroke), Brittney Dye (200 backstroke), Falon Hopkins (100 freestyle), Kristin Bay (100 freestyle), Kristen Douglass (100 freestyle), Laura Starr (100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke), Corrie Phares (200 breaststroke), Carolina Burakowski (200 breaststroke) and Kristin Eaves (200 butterfly) all recorded new season bests in the final meet of the fall campaign.
The meet concluded the fall season for the Cougars who won't hit the water again until Jan. 19 when they play host to crosstown rival Rice in a 1 p.m. dual meet at the UH Natatorium.
