Pakhalina Rolls to Wins at Tennessee Diving Meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - University of Houston diver Yulia Pakhalina rolled to another easy win Saturday on the three-meter springboard against Tennessee.
Pakhalina was the only diver to post more than 500 points on the three-meter board in 11 dives. The Moscow, Russia, native and two-time defending NCAA champion finished with 518.83 points, more than 44 points ahead of second-place finisher Lauryn McCalley of Tennessee.
She has captured first place in 10 consecutive individual events to open the 2001-02 season and has not won by fewer than 26 points in any event this year.
Lindsay Harvey finished fifth with 338.46 points, while Veronica Smith captured sixth place with a score of 326.09.
Tennessee's Kylee Wells and Stacy Binyon rounded out the top four leaders.
The Cougar swimming and diving team will now enjoy a lengthy break from competitive action and won't hit the water again until they return to Fayetteville, Ark., to participate at the Arkansas Invitational on Nov. 29-Dec. 2.

ONE-METER DIVING RESULTS Sophomore Yulia Pakhalina continued her dominance as one of the nation's top divers Friday after placing first in the one-meter springboard against Tennessee in a dual meet.
The diving-only meet concludes at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the three-meter event.
Pakhalina, who was named Conference USA Diver of the Week for the second time this season Tuesday, was the only performer to score more than 300 points, tallying 327.52 points for the second-highest score by a Cougar diver in the one-meter event.
Tennessee's Jaime Sanger was a distant second with 291.45 points.
Veronica Smith placed sixth with 205.19 points while Lindsay Harvey contributed with 189.44 points against the Volunteers.
Lauryn McCalley, Kylee Wells and Stacy Binyon, all of Tennessee rounded out the top five.
