On Wednesday, October 17, University of Houston Head Women's Swimming & Diving Coach Ginger Hurley will make a special visit to chat about the Cougar program and the 2001-02 season.
Now entering her sixth season at the helm of the Cougar program, Hurley's influence has been easy to see. Using a formula of successful recruiting and hard work, Hurley's Cougars followed up the successful 2000 season (where the team won the most dual meets in a single season in school history) with a 22nd-place team finish at the 2001 NCAA Championships.
Since beginning with one modest dual meet win in her coaching debut during the 1996-97 season, Hurley has since guided the Cougars to 21 dual wins in the four short years thereafter. Last season the team, like their head coach, fought hard through some injuries. In the spring Hurley was sidelined from her coaching duties for over two weeks while recovering from an emergency appondectomy. She returned to the deck in time to lead UH at the National Independent Championhips and a few weeks later the Cougars finished 22nd in the nation at the NCAA's.
