Cougars Win Whataburger UTSA Invitational

Houston had four of the top five runners in the race to easily outdistance second place UTSA. The Cougars had 21 points, while UTSA had 54 points. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was third with 69 points, while Nichols State was fourth with 91 points.
The Cougars were led by junior Mike Olague, who was the individual champion as he completed the course in 20:42. Olague beat two of his teammates, Tartou Kargou and Jared Kuntz, to win the race. Kargou finished second with a time of 21:31 and Kuntz made his Cougar debut by finishing third in 21:35. Junior Gary Skinner finished fifth in a time of 21:59.
Houston had five other runners in the race. Juan Cardenas was 10th in a time of 22:35, while Jason Banes finished 12th in22:45. Ronnie Martinez was 14th in 22:54, Alex Winstel was 17th in 23:06 and Bucky Dennis was 24th in 24:56.
Houston returns to action on Saturday, September 30, when the Cougars travel to the Oklahoma State Invitational in Stillwater, Okla.
