Adams Finishes Eighth in Long Jump

Adams, who was the 2000 NCAA outdoor long jump champion, was the top collegiate finisher with a wind-aided leap of 21 feet, 2 1/2 inches. She was one of two collegians who competed in the finals of long jump on Sunday.
In addition to competing in the long jump, Adams will try to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team in the 100-meter hurdles on Friday.
She finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships last May after setting a school record of 12.86 seconds in the semifinals.
Houston placed two athletes on the US Olympic Team when Dawn Burrell finished second in the long jump with a wind-aided leap of 22 feet, 10 1/2 inches and Michelle Collins finished third in the 400 meters in 50.29 seconds.
Sandra Glover also had the best 400-meter hurdles time of 53.87 seconds in the semifinals. She will compete in the finals July 17.
