Rogers Named Football All-American

MIAMI, FL -- For an outstanding senior season that included 137 tackles and 10 sacks in 11 games played, University of Houston linebacker Wayne Rogers was named All-America by the editorial staff of "Football News" the publication announced on Wednesday, November 22.
Rogers, a 6-foot-1 235-pound senior who anchored the Cougar defense this season, had his status as one of the nation's top linebackers confirmed by Football News with selection to its annual All-America team. The standout from University High School in Waco, Texas, was named to the News' All-America Third Team amassing 137 tackles and ranking number-two in the nation in tackles-for-loss per game (2.18 p/g).
The UH team captain was also fifth in tackles per game and tied for 15th in sacks per game. Rogers was one of only nine linebackers in the country to earn All-America accolades from Football News. He was also one of seven players from Texas schools and one of six honored from Conference USA.
Rogers moved past UH great and former Lombardi Award winner Wilson Whitley on the school's all-time list for career tackles-for-loss (55 for minus-226 yards). He was named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week in back to back games against Memphis and Southern Miss.
