After challenging his teammates to take it up a notch after the Cougars' disappointing 48-31 loss to Cincinnati two weeks ago, Rogers responded by leading by example in Houston's thrilling overtime win. Rogers led the Cougars defensive effort against the Tigers, holding the Memphis offense to a mere 202 total yards.
Rogers paced the Houston defensive effort with 16 total tackles, including 12 solo stops, four tackles for losses, two sacks and one pass defended. With his four tackles for losses, Rogers moved past the late Wilson Whitley (1973-76)-the former Lombardi Award winner-and into second place all-time with 44 TFLs.
The Cougars return to action this Saturday at 2:30 p.m., when they play host to 14th-ranked Southern Miss in a key Conference USA tilt. Houston sports a 3-4 overall record and 2-1 in league play, while the Golden Eagles enter the contest at 5-1 and 2-0.
