The Houston native is only the eighth defensive player in the state of Texas to earn multiple consensus All-America honors, and only the third defensive linemen in the state's history, following in the footsteps of TCU's Jerry Hughes (2008-09) and Texas' Kenneth Sims (1980-81).
Oliver was the only repeat consensus All-American on the 2018 team.
Five organizations are used by the NCAA to determine its consensus team — American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Associated Press, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), The Sporting News and the Walter Camp Foundation.
Houston's first three-time All-American, Oliver earned First-Team honors from the FWAA and the Walter Camp Foundation while earning Second-Team honors from the Sporting News and the AFCA. He rounded out his honors with a Third-Team mention from the AP.
On Wednesday he became only the third player in college football history to be named to three straight AFCA All-America teams. Oliver earned Second-Team honors this season after First-Team honors in 2017 and Second-Team honors in 2016, joining Clemson's Christian Wilkins (2016-18) and Georgia's Herschel Walker (1980-82) as the only players to earn AFCA distinction three straight seasons.
A consensus All-American in 2017 and the first underclassman in the history of the Outland Trophy to win the award, Oliver is one of eight from the Houston program to earn FWAA First-Team honors, and the only to do so twice.
Oliver became Houston's eighth consensus All-American in 2017, and its first since Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware accomplished the feat in 1989. Oliver joined Ware, WR Jason Phillips (1988), DT Leonard Mitchell (1980), DT Wilson Whitley (1976), WR Elmo Wright (1970), OG Bill Bridges (1969) and OG Rich Stotter (1967) in earning the honor.
