The American Athletic Conference's lone representative on the watch list and a member of the UH Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Malveaux enters the 2016 season after starting 13 games for Houston's Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and American Championship team in 2015.
He finished last season with 33 tackles as a defensive end in Houston's three-man front while totaling 8.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and three pass breakups.
The winner, announced in December at a gala black-tie dinner, will receive $25,000 for his school's general scholarship fund while each of three runner-ups will each receive $5,000 for their schools.
Additionally, one athlete is chosen as Player of the Week each week during the season, earning $1,000 for his school.
